Last updated 14 October 2026
What changed on 14 October 2026. Boldi, the AI coach, can now chat with
you, talk with you by voice inside and outside a run (including a wake word during runs),
build a training plan with you, and write run debriefs. This update names the AI service
providers that receive your data (The AI coach), explains what each
feature sends, how long things are kept and how to withdraw your consent, and adds sections
on international transfers and the legal bases we rely on.
RouteRush ("RouteRush", "we", "us") is a fitness app that records your
runs and rides, maps your routes, and offers an optional AI coach and social features. This
policy explains what we collect, why, who receives it, and your choices.
Information we collect
- Account information — when you sign in with Apple or Google we store
your email address (or sign-in identifier), display name, an optional profile photo and, if
you add it, your home city, to create and secure your account.
- Location data — to record a run we collect precise GPS location while a
workout is active, including the route path, distance, pace, and elevation. We do not track
your location in the background when you are not recording an activity.
- Health & fitness data — with your permission we read workout and
fitness metrics from Apple Health (such as workouts, distance, active energy, heart rate,
sleep and recovery measures) to display and summarise your activity, and we may write
completed workouts back to Apple Health.
- Activity content — runs you save, titles, notes, achievements, how hard
a run felt if you tell us, your training plan, and anything you choose to share with clubs or
other users.
- AI coach conversations — the messages and files you send to Boldi, his
replies, and any feedback you give on them. See The AI coach.
- Voice (optional) — if you turn on voice coaching, what you say to Boldi.
See Voice coaching & microphone.
- Usage & device data — app usage events, diagnostics and crash
reports (feature usage, errors, device model, OS version), stored on our own servers, to
keep the app working and improve it.
- Subscriptions — purchases are handled by Apple. We receive your
subscription status from Apple but never see your card or payment details.
How we use your information
- To record, map, and summarise your activities.
- To provide social features (clubs, leaderboards, following) you opt into.
- To provide the AI coach and voice coaching when you choose to use them.
- To operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the app.
- To manage your subscription and entitlements, and to send notifications you allow.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
The AI coach (Boldi)
Boldi is an AI coach, not a person and not a doctor. His advice is not medical advice.
Nothing is sent to an AI service provider until you allow it on the consent screen in the
app.
What is sent
- Chat — your messages and anything you attach, the display name and home
city on your profile, and your RouteRush training history (runs and rides, distances, paces,
how hard runs felt, your plan, streak, league and territory).
- Voice coaching — what you say to Boldi, your live run stats, your
RouteRush training history and the optional items you switched on for voice.
- Building a plan with Boldi — your answers, typed or spoken (for example
your goal, race date, the days you can train, and any injury or break you mention), as part of
the conversation.
- Run debriefs and weekly summaries — if you turn them on, the numbers from
that run or week.
- Optional items — only if you switch each one on in
Settings › Boldi Coach › What Boldi can use: recovery summaries from Apple Health
(your recent resting heart rate, heart rate variability and sleep compared with your usual
range, and your cardio fitness trend — never your raw Health data); your body profile (age,
sex, height and weight); and where you run (the name of the area, the weather there, your
climbs so far and whether you have run there before — never your exact position or your
routes). The app may offer further optional items over time; each is off until you switch it
on, and its screen says what it sends and whether anything is saved.
To answer some questions, such as weather or race information, Boldi may search the web. A
search carries your question (and, if you allowed "where you run", the area's name), never your
health data.
Who receives it
These AI service providers power Boldi. Depending on the feature and on availability, any of
them may receive the data described above, and only that data:
- Anthropic PBC (United States)
- OpenAI (OpenAI, L.L.C., United States, or OpenAI Ireland Limited)
- Google (Google LLC, United States, or Google Ireland Limited)
- OpenRouter, Inc. (United States) — a routing service that passes
requests on to the AI model providers listed here
They act as our service providers (processors or sub-processors) under their API and data
processing terms, and use the data only to produce Boldi's replies. Under those terms, and the
settings we use, they do not use this data to train their models. They may keep it for a
limited period for abuse and safety monitoring, as their terms allow. For real-time voice your
phone connects to the provider directly, so the provider also receives technical connection
data such as your IP address.
If we add a provider that is not on this list, we will update this policy and ask for your
consent again in the app before sending it anything.
What RouteRush keeps
- Your chats with Boldi (messages, attachments and feedback) are saved to your account so
you can come back to them. You can delete any chat from Boldi's chat history; deleting a chat
removes its messages from our servers.
- If you talk with Boldi by voice outside a run, the text of what you and Boldi said is
saved in that chat, like typed messages.
- A record of each consent choice you make (what you allowed, when, and which version of
the wording you saw), so we can show what you agreed to.
Your choices
- Turn chat, voice coaching, debriefs or any optional item off at any time in
Settings › Boldi Coach. Nothing more is sent from that moment on.
- Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that happened before you withdrew it.
Voice coaching & microphone
Voice coaching lets you talk with Boldi during a run, in the chat, or while building a plan.
It is off by default and works only after your explicit consent in the app and
the iOS microphone permission.
- Wake word. During a run with voice coaching on, you can wake Boldi by
saying his name. Listening for the wake word happens on your phone, and iOS asks for speech
recognition permission for it.
- Depending on the voice mode in use, your audio is sent to the AI service providers
either only while you are talking with Boldi, or continuously while voice coaching is on
during that run. When voice coaching is off, nothing is sent.
- RouteRush does not store your voice recordings. Voice data is never used
for advertising or sold.
- Your run stats, and whether Boldi is on, can appear in a Live Activity on your Lock
Screen. It is drawn by your phone.
- You can stop voice coaching at any time from the run screen, withdraw consent in
Settings › Boldi Coach, or revoke microphone and speech recognition access in iOS
Settings › Privacy & Security.
Apple HealthKit
Data obtained from Apple Health is used only to provide RouteRush's features: showing and
summarising your activity and, if you allow it, letting the AI coach use the summaries
described above. We do not use Health data for advertising or marketing, and
we do not sell it or share it with third parties for those purposes. You can
revoke Health access at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security ›
Health.
How information is shared
We share data only with service providers that help us run the app, and only as needed:
- Supabase — hosts our database, file storage and authentication, on
servers in the EU.
- Apple — sign-in, Apple Health, in-app subscriptions, push notifications,
and the weather and place names the app looks up for the area you are in.
- Google — sign-in, if you choose Google sign-in.
- Mapbox — renders maps and route overlays.
- AI service providers — Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and OpenRouter, for the
AI coach, as described above.
Other users see what you choose to share (for example your profile, public runs, club posts
and leaderboard positions). We may also disclose data if required by law or to protect our
rights and users.
International transfers
We store your account data in the EU. Some of the providers above, including the AI service
providers and Mapbox, are based in the United States and may process data in the United States
and other countries where they operate. Where personal data leaves the EU/EEA, we rely on the
safeguards in those providers' data processing terms, such as the European Commission's
Standard Contractual Clauses.
Data retention
- Your account, activities, chats and settings are kept while your account is active, until
you delete them.
- Diagnostic logs are deleted after 30 days. AI coach usage events are deleted after 180
days. Other usage and crash records are kept only as long as needed to keep the app working
and improve it.
- AI service providers keep data only for the limited period their terms allow (see
above).
- When you delete your account in the app, we delete your account and the data linked to
it, including your activities, chats with Boldi, consent records and social data. Photos and
files you uploaded, and some usage, crash and purchase records, are not yet removed
automatically; email us and we will delete them. We may keep limited records where the law
requires it.
Legal bases
If you are in the EU, EEA, UK or a country with similar laws, we process your data to
provide the service you asked for (our contract with you); with your consent for Apple Health
data, the AI coach, voice coaching and each optional item (for health-related data, your
explicit consent); and on our legitimate interests in keeping the app secure, fixing errors and
improving it.
Your rights & choices
- Access and update your profile in the app.
- Delete any chat with Boldi, and turn the coach, voice and each optional item off, in the
app.
- Delete your account from the app.
- Control Location, Health, microphone and speech recognition permissions in iOS
Settings.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or
object to processing of your data, and to receive a copy of it — contact us to exercise them.
You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Security
We use industry-standard measures (encryption in transit, authenticated access) to protect
your data. No method of
transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children's privacy
RouteRush is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from
them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it. Building a
training plan with Boldi requires you to confirm you are 18 or over. If you are below the age
at which you can consent on your own where you live (up to 16 in some EU countries), ask a
parent or guardian before you turn on the AI coach.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above and,
where appropriate, an in-app notice. Any change to what the AI coach sends, or to whom, is asked
for again in the app before it applies to you.
